Archbishop Leo Cushley (1961 – ) is the 56th Bishop of St Andrews and 8th Archbishop of St Andrews & Edinburgh. Born in Lanarkshire, Leo Cushley was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Motherwell in 1985. In 1994, he was recruited by the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See, going on to serve in Burundi, Portugal, Southern Africa and the United Nations in New York. From 2009 until 2013, he was head of the English-language section of the Holy See’s Secretariat of State in Rome before being appointed as Archbishop of St Andrews & Edinburgh by His Holiness Pope Francis in 2013.
MGR PATRICK CANON BURKE
Parish Priest, Chaplain of Canmore and Honorary Catholic Chaplain to the University of St Andrews
Fr Patrick was born in Zimbabwe, grew up in London and moved to Scotland in 1982. He studied Theology at St Andrews University before going on to the Pontifical Scots College in Rome to study for the Priesthood. He was ordained in 1991. After a period as a curate in West Lothian, Fr Burke returned to Rome to do a doctorate in Theology which he completed in 1997.
​On his return to the Archdiocese from Rome, Fr Burke served in St Joseph’s, Burntisland, Our Lady and St Ninian’s, Bannockburn and Sacred Heart, Cowie.
From 2005 to 2013 Fr Burke served as an official in the Doctrinal Section of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in the Vatican.
In 2013, Fr Patrick returned to Scotland to the parish of Ss John Cantius and Nicholas in Broxburn, where he served until moving to the Cathedral in 2015. In December 2021, Fr Patrick was inducted into the Metropolitan Chapter of Canons at St Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh and served as Vicar General.
On 6th September 2024, Father Patrick took up his appointment as Parish Priest of St James', Chaplain of Canmore and Honorary Catholic Chaplain to the University of St Andrews.
